Light Meter

Only when you know how much light you are exposed to and when, can you make changes where they are needed. With a light meter or even with your phone, you can determine where you are lacking light or where it is still too bright in the evening.

Measure Your Environment

Factory Calibrated Sensors are affordable these days, but even better: Your smartphone already has a built-in sensor! When you install a "Toolbox" app, you can access all the internal sensors of your phone, including the light sensor. However, keep in mind that these tiny sensors in smartphones cannot compete with the accuracy of a real lux meter and can be quite off, especially in extremely dark or bright environments. So the measurement is more of a rough estimate, but it's sufficient to help you better assess your surroundings.

Our personal favorite is the app Physics Toolbox Suite for Android, as it is free, comes without any advertisements, and provides you with a ton of possibilities and options (even exporting graphs to Excel if you want).

For iOS, we recommend Light Meter LM-3000 - the app is better calibrated than most other apps and is free long enough for you to conduct your initial measurements.
